November 2018 Showcase

Aoibhinn Ní Chraoibhínn is 12 years of age and is a native of Monaghan town.

From a young age, she enjoyed drama, dancing and taking part in musical shows.

She has a great love for the Irish language and music.

Aoibhinn is a past pupil of Gaelscoil Ultain and is currently a 1st year student in Coláiste Oriall. Aoibhinn has a younger sister and brother and they love being in each others company.

In 2018, Aoibhinn represented Co. Monaghan in the Ulster Fleadh in both the Irish and English Under 12 singing category which took place in Castlewellan Co. Down. In August, Aoibhinn secured 3rd place in the ladies under 12 English singing at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

Aoibhinn auditioned for the 2018 Junior Eurovision. She subsequently performed her original song and was a semi-finalist on the show which aired on TG4 in November. Aoibhinn would like to thank her support network of teachers, family and friends for supporting her throughout 2018.

Aoibhinn is really looking forward to performing at the Monaghan Arts Network in the Market House on Wednesday 28th of November.

Alex Watson originally from Cootehill Co. Cavan, and now lives in Ballybay Co. Monaghan. He enjoyed photography from an early age, but it was not until 2015 that he began to take a more serious look at becoming a photographer. He joined Monaghan Photography Society in 2016 and in his first year won the Westenra cup and came third in the Advanced section in 2017, he also had three images in the finals of the Irish Photographic Federation, Photographer of the Year 2017 competition. He has recently gave a talk on Macro photography to the members of Monaghan Photographic Society followed by a hands on demonstration.

As a Photographer he describes himself as an all rounder not just sticking to one genre of photography, some of which include Landscapes, Portraits, Commercial, New born, Family, Macro, Boudoir, Drone video photography. As he say’s “You have only one chance to capture that special moment”.

Alex is also the representative for Monaghan Photographic Society in the North East region for the Irish Photographic Federation and Chair of Monaghan Arts Network.

The Andencomes. multi instrumentalists (and co-incidentally recently married to each other), Karina Charles and Andrew Lynch perform music from their upcoming debut album. Featuring an eclectic fusion of electronica, rock and celtic music, this couple have been performing, composing and recording music together since they met and show no signs of stopping. The Andensomes’ unique sound is influenced and inspired by the shared experience and their exploration of life and the spiritual connection between humankind and the universe. Their music and beautiful live performances are created with the intention of taking audiences on a journey. They recently performed at the Cavan Arts Festival and are really looking forward to bringing their music to the Market House Monaghan.


Denis & Josephine O’Higgins are both retired from their respective professional occupations. They have returned to their farming roots, this time, at Castleshane, Co Monaghan. Denis has always enjoyed reading, politics, general knowledge and writing and has had a number of his stories published in books and magazines over the years. He is a regular contributor to Shannonside / Northern Sound – Current Affairs. His letters to the Editors are often published in various newspapers. He is an active member of Knockatallon Ramblers.

Josephine enjoys outdoor activities, walking, cycling, travelling and researching family tree and stories, many of which she has read on Sunday Miscellany. She is a member of U3A and participates in its choir, dancing and outings and is also a member of Monaghan Community Network
